Governance Expertise

Meena’s governance expertise has been built on a 30 year career consulting across multiple region and sectors including resources, banking, insurance, property, retail and professional services.

She has an established reputation and track record in leading major business change projects including providing strategic support for restructures, acquisitions and divestments and organisational renewal.

She has also had a long history of working with mission led organisations and public corporations.

She brings to the boards she works with:

  • A strong commercial understanding of business and its drivers of value

  • An understanding of the broader context in which organisations and markets operate, bringing a systems view to her advisory work

  • A practice designed to strengthen the culture of accountability and ownership, grounded in an understanding of organisational change

  • Lived experience as a board director

She is also currently on the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Director coaching panel and is on the executive coaching panels of several global companies. She holds a PhD from RMIT, a BSc Hons in Psychology from Manchester University, UK and has completed the Senior Executive Program at London Business School, UK.

Board Experience

Meena's board level experience includes conducting board effectiveness reviews, board succession and renewal including skills reviews and director coaching. She brings a unique combination of business and organisational experience underpinned by her background as an psychologist. She has also undertaken doctoral level research on the effects and consequences of social identity and power on decision processes in and around the boardroom. Her experience spans both for profit and not for profit organisations. 

Publications

Meena has spent over a decade researching the enablers and barriers to good decision making, culminating in the publication of several books: “Identity, Power and Influence in the Boardroom” (Routledge, UK 2018) and “The Secret Life of Decisions” (Routledge UK, 2013). Both books draw from her research bias including from her successful completion in 2017 of a PhD studying the psycho-social influences on the decision cultures at the board level of listed companies. Meena has been invited to present at international conferences and forums on top team effectiveness and renewal.

Meena has provided advice to a number of global companies including but not limited to HSBC Group, Barclays Banking Group, QBE Insurance Limited, Westpac Banking Group, JLL John Lewis Partnership, AMP Ltd, TAL, Ericsson, IAG, Minter Ellisons and KPMG among others.

She has also undertaken board reviews for several prominent arts boards and public utilities.

She has held senior roles in ANZ Banking Group, Esso Australia, Hay Group, PA Consulting and Intel.
